Bennington Museum
Incorporated in 1852 as the Bennington Historical Association, the museum was founded to honor the 1777 Revolutionary War battle fought near the town. Now the largest art and history repository in Southern Vermont, the Bennington Museum includes the largest collection of American folk art by Grandma Moses.
Grandma Moses Schoolhouse
Originally constructed in Eagle Bridge, New York, the building was moved to the Museum grounds in 1972. Along with the interactive family center of Grandma Moses’ life there is 19th century country store, the interior of an actual one room schoolhouse, antique toys and a make-your-own Grandma Moses painting wall.
Hyde Park
Hometown of the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt there are guided tours of his home “Springwood” along with self guided tours of the Presidential Library and Museum. Stroll the 300 acre site of formal gardens, grounds and nature and hiking trails.
Vanderbilt Mansion
Hyde Park is also home to the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site. This estate is a tribute to an era and way of life lived during that time period rather than focusing on any one historical person or family. The site includes 211 acres that have centuries old trees, views of both the Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains and gorgeous Italian Gardens.
West Point
A tour of West Point includes the famed West Point Cemetery, the West Point Museum with the largest miltaria collection in the Americas, Fort Putnam and Eisenhower Hall. Depending on when you tour, it’s also possible to witness the cadet review parade.
Amish Countryside Tour and Family-Style Meal
Experience a day in the life of an Amish family with a guided tour of this unique way of life. Enjoy a buggy ride, stroll through an authentic homestead, learn about a working farm that includes broom making, candle dipping, seasonal foods being dried, preserved, smoked, salted and canned, hand-stitched Amish quilts and more.
